Scholarships for the Student of Martial Arts

The United States Judo Federation Board of Directorshas established the “USJF Athlete–Scholar of the Year Award.” First prize is $1,000.00, second prize $750.00, and third prize $500.00. The money will be paid directly to the College or University of their choice at the time of matriculation.

Kick 4 College Karate Scholarships - If you are a talented martial artist and have competed numerous times, you should think about entering the Kick 4 College tournaments. At each of these tournaments, the top three winners in each division will receive a scholarship. Amounts of awards vary, but the typical award is at least $1,000. Once students are entering college, Kick 4 College will send the tuition amount each semester until all scholarship funds are paid out. American Taekwondo Association H.U. Lee Scholarship - To be eligible for these martial arts scholarships, students must graduate from an accredited high school with at least a 2.0 GPA and must be entering college the semester following graduation. Students must also earn at least a 1600 on the SAT or a 27 on the ACT and exemplify discipline, perseverance, and other qualities obtained through taekwondo. Applicants must have never been convicted of drug crimes, and must be registered with Selective Service, if required.

USA Judo Life Membership Scholarship Grants - The USA Judo Life Member scholarships have the purpose of easing an athlete’s college financial burden so students can continue participating in Judo while pursuing a degree program. The program provides qualified applicants with up to $2,000 each semester. To be eligible, students must be high performing or potential elite athletes who are currently, or will soon be, enrolled in an accredited college degree program. Applicants must be in good academic standing and have at least a 3.0 or better GPA. In addition, applicants must have an income of less than $30,000 a year if single and $60,000 if married with a spouse who is working. To apply, students must obtain an official application from the USA Judo National Office and submit it with a federal income tax return and official transcripts. Amateur Athletic Union Karate Scholarships - These scholarships were first offered in 2004 at the AAU Karate National Championships. Each year since, the scholarships have been awarded to a young woman and a young man who have participated in AAU Karate for at least four years. To be eligible, students must be attending an accredited college or university in the fall or be currently attending a qualified program. Recipients will receive $1,000 each. Oceanside Martial Arts Scholarships - Oceanside provides scholarships for OMA black belt youth who are planning to attend an accredited college or university. Oceanside Martial Arts started this program to help meet the deficit of available scholarships for young martial artists and to recognize talent and achievement in the martial arts world.
